Internal server error when using the Search box feature on a site.

$

I keep getting an internal server error message when I use the ootb search feature on a site.

Have checked the site collection features for search webpart activation.  I have checked within CA for the services, Search Query and site settings service and SharePoint Server Search, being started on the 2 WFEs.  On my 2 Apps, the same.

Please help.  What are we missing?

Thanks

Does someone have a PowerShell script that can change logo URL for ALL site collections > subsites > sub-subsite > sub-sub-sub sites and so on. As many levels deep as there exist? That will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello SharePoint Fam,

I have been adding Best Bets with no problem for almost a year now and for some reason now I am getting error:

Trying to use an SPWeb object that has been closed or disposed and is no longer valid.

Each time I try to create a new Best Bet/Keyword.  I am using all ootb functions and not sure where to look to resolvethis.  I downloaded the disposechecker tool but not really sure how to use this tool.  I am only seeing this error with new Best Bet keywords and no where else.  Not sure if error is coming from keywords.aspx, masterpage or if there is application pool issue.

Please Help somebody!!!!! Thanks N Advance :)

Intermittent need to recycle app pool

Hi, I have an application pool that has been giving me trouble every few days @ a specific time, around 2am. At this time, the app pool seems to get corrupted or something like that and will prevent the associated web application from rendering content. Things to note:

- It's happening only on 1 of 3 WFEs out of a 5 server farm. The affected WFE has rotated, meaning if the app pool gets corrupted on WFE1 it won't happen on WFE3 and vice-versa.

- The affected application pool does not get shut down.

- Other web apps and application pools are not affected.

- This only happens to the application pool dedicated to My Sites.

- To fix the problem, recycling the application pool will resolve it.

- I have the application pool set to auto-recycle about 15 mins prior to it becoming corrupted.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Digging through the diagnostic logs, I've made a correlation to these entries but haven't been able to figure out what's happening:

Document IDs and the DocID Service in SharePoint Server 2010

$
0

My understanding is that the DOC ID looks up the absolute URL and then attempts to open the document.

My question is, how often does the data "refresh". That is, if you change the name of the document, or change the location, in theory the DOC ID service should update the absolute URL from the old name to the new name. But on my SharePoint site it is not instantaneous and often takes overnight for the record relationship to update.

that is:

 http://sitecollection/web/_layouts/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=2960-489 =http://sitecollection/site/SharedDocuments/DocumentV1.0.docx

so when I change the name of the DocumentV1.0 to DocumentV2.0

 http://sitecollection/web/_layouts/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=2960-489 =http://sitecollection/site/SharedDocuments/DocumentV2.0.docx

Yet when you click on http://sitecollection/web/_layouts/DocIdRedir.aspx?ID=2960-489 not long after changing the name (or location) I get a HTTP 404 error. Yet tomorrow I wont, so therefore the service has updated the static URL match.

How often does the DOC ID service refresh the data, and where is the setting to change it to more frequently on change of document name or location?

Thanks for any replies.

Removing Database Server from Farm

In my Servers in Farm I have

SHAREPOINT_DB   Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Database

SQLCL-SPOINT Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation Database

SHAREPOINT_DB - is the alias configured on all the wfe's to point to the actual database server which used to be

SQLCL-SPOINT\SHAREPOINT.   We have recently migrated all the databases off of db server to a different VM SQL-SPDBP  and updated all the cliconfg to point to the new server.   I am not really sure WHY SLQCL-SPOINT is showing up as a database server. All of the service applications with the exception of Usage app use the sharepoint_db alias.   The Usage app is the only one that has the sqlcl-spoint/sharepoint  hardcoded in the config.  I will be using powershell to update that pointer shortly.  That being said .. could that cause SQLCL-SPOINT to show up in servers in farm?  Is there a way to verify nothing else is looking at that server before I remove server from Central Admin?

Thank you for any replies!

New certificate

Ok, here is another strange item in my life of Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise.....

The certificate for my sharepoint expired.....no big deal, I made a new one, set it up in IIS  (bindings)

Life was all happy and jolly again.....until

Until I restart the server  (windows updates)

upon reboot, I try to go to sharepoint....instant fail   (Page cannot be displayed)  instant as in, it doesn't even try

no errors in ANY log, not even a (no, i dont wanna)

the fix:

Go to IIS, change the bindings to any other cert, click OK

edit bindings again, set it to the correct cert...... back to being happy and jolly.

Any ideas on that one??

(yes, i even waited a good 10 to 15 min after reboot)

but when I do the quick cert swap back and forth, it works just fine and dandy

PassPhrase Replication Problem

Hi,

Recently, we needed to add a new server in our farm. The SharePoint Wizard asks us a passphrase that we didn't have... So we change it with PowerShell. After this operation, we could integrate the new server in the farm and everything seems to be OK.

Unfortunately, the SharePoint 2010 Timer Service was in error on one of our server in the farm. The Master Passphrase Deployment job has not run on this server and now, he didn't have the last PassPhrase. Solution deployment failed on this server and some operations are not available.

We try to fix this problem by running the Set-SPPassPhrase with -LocalServerOnly parameter on this server but we have an error message:

$passphrase=ConvertTo-SecureString -asPlainText -Force
Set-SPPassPhrase -PassPhrase $passphrase -LocalServerOnly
Set-SPPassPhrase : Error during decryption. Ensure the passphrase is correct.

In the ULS Logs we found this error:

Decryption failed with error: 0  at     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPCredentialManager.DecryptWithKey(Byte[] rgbEncryptedPassphrase, Byte[] rgbKey)      at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPCredentialManager.set_MasterKey(Byte[] value)      at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPCredentialManager.CreateMasterKey(Boolean generateKeyIfNeeded, SecureString sstrPassphrase, Boolean localOnly)      at Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPCmdletSetPassPhrase.InternalProcessRecord()      at Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPCmdlet.ProcessRecord()      at System.Management.Automation.CommandProcessor.ProcessRecord()     at System.Management.Automation.CommandProcessorBase.DoExecute()

We also tried to change the passphrase on the entire farm again but when the replication job run on this server, we have this message in the Event Viewer:

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPMasterPassphraseDeploymentJobDefinition (ID 072bcb57-fabb-4136-83cc-3c5607c56d5d) threw an exception. More information is included below.
Error during decryption. System error code 0.

And we have this ULS message:

Decryption failed with error: 0 at at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPCredentialManager.DecryptWithKey(Byte[] rgbEncryptedPassphrase, Byte[] rgbKey)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPMasterPassphraseDeploymentJobDefinition.Execute(Guid targetInstanceId)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerJobInvokeInternal.Invoke(SPJobDefinition jd, Guid targetInstanceId, Boolean isTimerService, Int32& result)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerJobInvoke.Invoke(TimerJobExecuteData& data, Int32& result)         0cce58bf-a725-406a-b232-9cdf14fc1fde

Any Ideas ? Thanks in advance for your help.

Manage customized access rights for subfolders while inheriting access rights from top feasible?

$

Hi,

short question on sharepoint, sure, very easy for you.

We are currently building a sharepoint with the following characteristics:

Folder structure:
Hierarchical folder structure, i.e. any folder can have multiple subfolders.

Access rights:
Access rights shall be provided for user groups to all folders. Any user group that has access to a folder, shall always have also access to the folder's subfolders. However, any user group having access to a subfolder shall not have access to the folders above. (i.e. top guys see everything, lower level people only see there stuff)

Implementation via inheritance:
As far as I now understood, inheritance is a very good means to set up the proposed structure of folders and access rights. The step-wise approach would look the following way:
1. Create folders
2. Create user groups
3. Add user groups to folders (i.e. start at top, add user groups to top level, break inheritance to subfolders, add user groups to subfolders, break inheritance to next level ... and so on)

Issue:
If I would like to add one further user group at the top level of the folder structure, I would have to add it either to each folder individually (in our case we will have 100s of different folders with different access rights) or we would have to start step 3 from above all over again.

Both solutions seem very work intensive and I wonder, whether there is another solution?
I would expect some kind of function in sharepoint where I can inherit user rights from the top without deleting individual user rights in the subfolders (i.e. a function that checks whether there is any user group that has access to a folder, but not to its subfolders despite having inheritance; but at the same time not delete groups that shall only have access to the subfolders, but not to the folder above).

I would highly appreciate any advice on how to solve this issue without using the above mentioned work-intensive options.

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards,
Benjamin

After deinstalling the patch the Web Part is displayed correctly again.

Our SharePoint Server has the Feb. 2013 CU installed.

This also happens to other Web Parts we manually updated via SharePoint Designer.

Any suggestion what’s going wrong?

Sharepoint 2010 configuration

Hello,

I am working on building a sharepoint 2010 architecture consisting of 4 servers (SQL, admin running central admin, WFE1, WFE2). All the servers are inside the network but WFE2 is the DMZ. I have successfully built SQL, Admin and joined WFE1 to the farm. But when I am trying to join WFE2 I am facing issues. I have copied couple of errors from the log generated after I ran configuration wizard.

I have verified that all the features and service pack updates are same on WFE1 and WFE2

I would appreciate any suggestions

Thank you

SharePoint 2010 - Granting access to ALL users from two domains?

Hi all,

If I select All Domain Users - will it grant access to users from both domains? Or will I have to take additional steps for this?

Thank you.

User gets "Edit User Settings" when visiting a site collection and redirected to usersettingserror.aspx

This is the exact same issue as this 365 thread: http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/148/p/175906/528698.aspx?PageIndex=3 but when I asked for support to give me the resolution on their end they told me to open a ticket.

This user can visit other site collections without an issue but when they visit this one specific collection they are redirected to usersettingserror.aspx and they receive a message they says "Edit User Settings".  They can not view the pages in this site collection they only receive this error page.

This happens after the upgrade to 2013. In 2010 they are able to visit without issue. 2010 is non-claims and 2013 is claims.

Cannot delete site columns even after removing all references

Hi

We currently have a SharePoint 2010 SP1 setup in our environments and are having a problem in removing a couple of site columns that were added in by a third party product. Despite best efforts this has not been possible and we are hoping to get some advice around this.

Here's a brief overview of the issue:

  1. We have two Site level columns that we are trying to delete, at the root site level. But when we try to delete them, we get the message (Site columns which are included in content types cannot be deleted. Remove all references to this site column prior to deleting it).
  2. We have run powershell scripts to ensure that these columns are not part of any List, Web or Content Type in the entire site structure and have also cleaned out the recycle bin (site and admin bin) to try and remove any existing references. We have also ensured that these columns are not marked as hidden, read-only, or sealed.
  3. We have also tried deleting this through SharePoint Manager but get the same result.
  4. The only possible explanation seems to be that there must be orphaned references in the database. (we have seen references to similar cases elsewhere and indeed we are seeing some entries in the DB for these fields, that are not visible in the UI or when querying through PowerShell). However for obvious reasons, we do not want to modify the SP database !

Any advice on how to track such missing references, or what can be done to delete a column in such a case, would be much appreciated !

Do let me know if you need any further details.

Thanks
Rob

Can't access Foundation 2010 Central Administration

Hi all

I have a strange issue I can't find the answer to. When I access CA, I get the top menu but nothing else. It shows only 1 item in the vertical navigation bar on the left which is Central Administration and the right side shows Resources with a + sign to add new items. The rest of the screen, specially the middle, is empty. I migrated from 3.0 to 2010 SP2. Everything else seems to load ok, except for CA. I checked the authentication method and Windows Auth is enabled, the rest are disabled.

Any ideas?
