spontaneous changes in user profiles

$

Hi all,

have a problem with SharePoint 2010 installation.

We have the farm which contains one WFE and one DB server.

WFE has many customization (one of them is click on My Details in user drop-down menu redirects user to custom page, which holds a lot of custom fields from SiteUserInfoList so the user can view not only their email, job title, department but hobby, age or hire date and so on).

SiteUserInfoList (/_catalogs/users/simple.aspx) has a special fields (custom added) to store details about each user (like hire date or hobby or age).

Authentication model for web application is set to Windows (NTLM) so each domain user can access portal until he is not specially blocked by SharePoint (broken inheritance\special permissions etc).

Today a unknown change of user profiles occur - all custom fields was cleared from data contained in and only fields containing data from user profiles in AD (email, phone, first\last name) left.

The question is - what application or service can initiate this changes and why?

Also why this things can happens every day?

! User Profile Services application is not installed or launched so this changes can not be bound with integrated FIM client.

Also no timer jobs are running which can cause user profiles change.

Thanks,

P.S. Yep i know that this is unsupported and not-a-best-practices so please don't tell about :)

Issues with the Custom Filter in Datasheet View

$

I'm seeing some odd, yet intermittent, behavior while trying to filter columns in datasheet view using a custom filter. After clicking to apply a filter to a column and choosing 'Custom Filter...' a pop-up with regular expressions should appear much like the following screenshot:

However sometimes, usually on a page refresh, this pops up instead:

I have been able to replicate this sporadically in both IE 8 and 9 against different columns but it's really inconsistent. I can't seem to find any configuration issues or commonality across the clients that might be responsible. Local installations of Office are 32bit. I know 64bit has been known to cause some issues. I wanted to see if anyone else has run into this issue at all or perhaps it has been addressed in a more recent CU than what I am running (14.0.6117.5002). Any insight would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have several SP2010 Development farms. In one of them, a new one I am getting this error in the eventlog

Event manager error: Could not load file or assembly 'TrendMicro.PortalProtect.hookWCUtility, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3d25d8fff8a3665b' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

I don't remember installing anything from TrendMicor so way this problem?

SP1 installed but fails on config wizard step 9 of 10

I have installed SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1 & SharePoint Server SP1. Rebooted then ran the configuration wizard. It fails on step 9 of 10. The error tells me to review the PSCDiagnostic log which provides no valuable info at all. See below. Then I looked in the event log and again nothing helpful. How am I supposed to figure out what the actual problem is? I also tried running the wizard again as someone suggested in a similar post but I still get the same error. I love how the error log tells me to review the error log though. Any ideas?

LDAP Provider with FBA for SharePoint Foundation?

With the LDAP Provider that is part of SharePoint Server, you can specifiy that the userNameAttribute be the AD value for email. This is not possible with the SQL Provider that is part of Foundation. Do you know of a free or commerical LDAP Provider for SharePoint Foundaton (either 2010 or 2013)?

No data for web analytics reports in Sharepoint 2010

Hello,

When I view Web Analytics Reports, I see this message:

There is no data available for this report. Here are some possible reasons: (1) Web Analytics has not been enabled long enough to generate data; (2) There is insufficient data to generate this report; (3) Data logging required for this report might not be enabled; (4) Data aggregation might not be enabled at the level required for this report.

I have "Enable usage data collection" option turned and some of the events turned on. I have 2 usage logs from today, though. I did receate a new Web Analytics Service Application.

The Web Analytics Data Processing Service and Web Analytics Web Service are both started.

Do you have some advice on what is going on? Maybe I need to wait a few days before more stats are created.

thanks

SP2010 Meeting Workspace - Minimum permission level to add and delete meetings

$

I have searched high and low and keep on coming up with no good solution (maybe there isn't one):

Problem: I do not want a user to have full ownership permissions to be able to add / delete ~ act as a meeting chair for a meeting workspace.

Reason: users tend to "play" with the site structure and with the user groups and ownership of the meeting workspace site. I have already contained the site within a team site and stopped inheriting permissions, but do not wish to grant the right to the user who is chairing the meeting to change anything but the meeting and its occurrences.

I haven't been able to get any permission level other than full ownership of the site *above* the meeting to be enough for a user to add / delete meeting occurrences through outlook.

I created a custom permission level and tried adding everything that appears to be needed but NO DICE, the user can add but not delete.

I thought we left the "admin to all" attitude with windows 98? I would very much like to see a bug ticket on this as I believe it to be a rather large sharepoint permission hole.

Has anyone any similar experience? Solutions?

Hi,
I use forms authentication for my intranet web application which is configured with LDAP using ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider as follows:

<membership defaultProvider="prov">
<providers>
<add name="prov" type="Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPClaimsAuthMembershipProvider, Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" />
<add name="ADMemProvider" type="System.Web.Security.ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0,
             Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" connectionStringName="adconn" enableSearchMethods="true" attributeMapUsername="sAMAccountName" connectionUsername="domain\username" connectionPassword="*******" />
</providers>

    <add name="adconn" connectionString="LDAP://10.2.2.36:389/DC=domain,DC=ac,DC=ae" />
  </connectionStrings>

While creating a new profile synchronization connection to store profile data from these ldap to my profile service application database, which Type of connection i have to choose among the following:

Active Directory,

Active Directory Logon Data,

Sun Java System Directory Server etc...

What are the fields I have to fill in as mandatory. Please give me the steps if anyone knows. Please find below the screen of creating new sync connection where I am in.

Hello All,

I am currently having some issue in my SharePoint 2010. Really worried, i have recently few users where they present in Domain A and Domain B in Active Directory.

I have disabled all the users from Domain A in the AD. When i try to view the users from PeoplePicker of SharePoint.

It is displaying the both the active and disabled users. Can someone suggest me, how to resolve the issue by displaying only the active users of the Domain.

Note : 1. In the Central Administration, i have checked for the connection filters configuration. The exclusion filter is applied UAC bits equal to 2.

            2. Checked from FIM end too. It is confirmed that Domain A user is disabled.

SharePoint Timer Service not starting due to a logon failure

Hello everyone,

SharePoint Timer Service on my SharePoint Web Server stops by itself every couple of days or so. Trying to restart it gives me the following error:

Windows could not start the SharePoint 2010 Timer service on Local Computer.

Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure.

I am able to start it after retyping the SP Service Account password. SP Service Account has Administrative rights to the machine. There are other services with the same logon, Web Analytics Service being one of them, that don't display the same behaviour.

I am not sure if this is an Active Directory issue.

Has anyone experienced this condition?

After user profile permission migration which sync we have to initiate ?

$

Hi Experts,

We are doing intra-forest Active Directory Migration. For Migration we are using Quest Migration Manager for Active Directory. It not moves user account to target domain. It’s copying user account from source domain to target domain.

In our environment we have SharePoint 2010 Servers. We have configured SharePoint to Active Directory Synchronization where Manager, Address, Company, Designation, Photo, etc. attributes are syncing from SharePoint to Active Directory.

After user Migration to target domain we are running Quest Processing wizard for migrating SharePoint permissions. It works fine. It’s reassign permission to target domain users.

As part of the migration process after migration we run SharePoint “User Profile” Incremental Sync. After Incremental sync we have been observed attributes value which syncing from SharePoint to Active Directory are showing blank in AD user properties. After running “User Profile Full Sync” this value coming back to Active Directory AD user properties.

Please help us to understand after user profile permission migration which sync we have to initiate?

Can we use “User Profile Change Job” for eliminate Full Sync?

People search relevance is not optimized when the Active Directory has errors in the manager reporting structure.

Title:People search relevance is not optimized when the Active Directory has errors in the manager reporting structure.
Severity: 0 - Rule Execution Failure
Category: Configuration
Explanation: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
Remedy: Specify the company leaders explicitly. Use the following PowerShell commands: $upap = Get-SPServiceApplicationProxy [appid]; Add-SPProfileLeader $upap [Domain]\[UserName]. Run 'Get-SPProfileLeader $upap' to check whether the leader was successfully added. As a last step, run a full crawl on the content source containing the start address (URL) of the user profile application. Additional data on this rule see to the address http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=2401800.
Failing Service: UserProfileServer

There used to be a knowledge base article up - however that was removed since the hot fix it reference did not exist. Further the post here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/66a057ce-c3bc-492b-ace8-62eb498adda9/) on technet has an answer of "you have to pass in the UPA Proxy, not the UPA" which I dont understand.

When I run the command in the "remedy" I get the following error (btw I dont have access to the AD)

Add-SpprofileLeade : Object reference not set to an instance of an object

At line:1 char:20
+ Add-SPProfileLeader <<<< $upap domain\userid

                +FullyQaulifiedErrorId : Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfile.PowerShell.

There is another articles about post sp1 users getting it here (http://blog.thomasgehrke.com/2011/08/sharepoint-2010-errors-in-manager.html) and the technet article above. There is also the article here (http://www.harbar.net/archive/2011/07/06/329.aspx) which didnt help.

Would appreciate any and all help - stuck on this one.

SharePoint 2010: Merging a SPList from a subsite to another subsite in same site collection along with workflow history

$

My requirement is to merge a SP List from 1 sub site to another sub-site along with workflow history. Eg: We have 2 products lists in 2 different sub sites in same site collection. Products list has workflows associated to the items in both the subsites. Now, when we want to merge both products list (because organization has merged to departments), we want the associated workflow history should also get copied to the target/merged list.

The option to move the items from 1 sub site list to another is straight forward, but main issue comes when it comes to workflow history. I saw that workflow history internally stores data using GUID of list+item ID (int) of the list item.

Please let me know if this is possible.

hi,

I was getting "Starting " status message in the existing user profile serv appln.So i deleted the same and trying to create a new serv appln. but i am getting the below error. am using SP 2010 ECAL, and SQL 2012 . after this when i go to thehttp://servername:15189/_admin/ServiceApplications.aspx

and try to see the serv applns. am getting the newly created USPA - with the name but withstarting status.

i have deleted the first uspa which is created when sp 2010 was configured and it was shown as starting only.

Would like to know how to fix this issue. struggling to find the root cause from last 2 days...

i have set the farm account and set Central administration–> Security–> Configure Service Account and Registered managed account and set teh farm account...etc

i dont have SP 2010 SP1 installed in my machine.

I have not set up MySites.

in my services.msc i have FIMService, is disabled and set the log on as local system.

and FIMSynchronizationService is automatic and set the logon as\.

Do i need SP 2010 Service Pack 1 for configuring user profile serv appln?

or

Do i need to make any changes in the FIMService and FIMSynchronizationService to enable and successfull start of user profile serv,. appln?

or is this a pblm with SQL 2012 software, am using? Should i go back to uninstall SQL 2012 and install SQL 2008 R2 back.
