Guidance on applying Windows Updates (non SP Updates) to SP Servers

Greetz!

I've seen some great articles on updating SharePoint servers with CUs PUs and SPs but not so much on the monthly patching of Windows on SharePoint servers. Last night I successfully patched my SharePoint servers, beginning with my dev box and then moving to QA and finally production. I made sure the sites came up and I could navigate to lists, etc. but the thought occurred to me that the patches I'm installing haven't had much time to be vetted in a SharePoint environment. Should I delay the installation of Windows Updates until I (and  the community) have had adequate time to insure no issues exist? What's your strategy?
