Putting together a testing plan for replacing an WFEold with WFEnew. Related to previous post https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/1ac34343-7caf-4d6b-b69f-021d1c143572/replacing-wfe-wsps-14-lb-other-customizations?forum=sharepointadminprevious#05cd1ed3-c3cc-407e-8363-42cc1cfbab36.
WFEnew has been added to the farm, but no services are currently running.
I'm thinking that in off-hours:
- set tester's hosts files to point to WFEnew
- start services on WFEnew currently running on WFEold:
Central Administration
Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Incoming E-Mail
Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application
Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Workflow Timer Service
Search Query and Site Settings Service
Secure Store Service
SharePoint Server Search - turn off WFEold
- Examine GACs C:\windows\assembly of WFEold and WFEnew, see what is missing (is the GAC automatically updated whth Web Application service is started on WFEnew?
- Spot check of SharePoint sites and custom applications.
Anything I should add? Anything wrong with my thinking/approach?
Thanks,
Scott
