Hello,
The current topology for my current SharePoint 2010 Enterprise (SP2) two web front ends (Virtual) and one Index Server (Virtual) and the databases are SQL 2008 running clustered on two physical server (Active/Passive) with the SAN as the SQL back end. I am asked to virtualize the SQL servers and I have the following steps in the run book, please let me know if I missed anything or is there a better way to do this.
Thanks
Steps are as follow:
- Power Down WFE1 (FrontEnd1), WFE2 (FrontEnd1) and IDX (Index).
- Shut down SQL services on DB Primary server (SSP2010DBPIMARY/ SSP2010DSECONDARY)
- P2V SQL servers DB Primary and DB Secondary
- Copy SAN data (800 GB) from ‘VNX’ to ‘Compellent’
- Shut down PhysicalDB Primary and DB Secondary (From Step 2)
- Power on 2 new virtual DB servers
- Power back WFE1 (FrontEnd1), WFE2 (FrontEnd1) and IDX (Index).
- Verify that the SharePoint sites are working
- If any issues power down new environment and connect the DB physical servers back (SSP2010DBPIMARY/ SSP2010DSECONDARY).
