Enterprice wiki site collection template and Read permissions

Hello guys,

Please help me understand why Read permisson doesn't allow user to access site? I have checked it, if I add user to the auto created sharepoint group for this site with "Contribute" permission level then user can, else I try to do it for the auto created sharepoint group for this site with "Read" permission level he can't.
