For a SharePoint 2010 Server (not Foundation) environment, is it necessary to install the Foundation Cumulative Update as well as the Server Cumulative Update? (In the same way that with 2007, you install the WSS update and then the MOSS update)
The nearest I have found to an answer is here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint/ff800847.aspx
where it says 'We recommend that you always install SharePoint Foundation 2010 patches before installing SharePoint Server 2010 patches. This best practice ensures that you will always be successful when installing updates.'
In this regard, should 2010 Foundation be thought of as a pre-req, or underlying component, for 2010 Server?
The same question applies to the use of the Updates folder in the install media - for a Server install, should we be extracting both the Foundation and Server Cumulative Updates there, for a correct slipstreamed install?
Thanks.
