Temporarily disable second User Profile service app

I inherited a farm that has two User Profile services. One has only a small number of users (80 vs 1500 in the other UPS), correspondingly small number of audiences, no synchs, etc. For housekeeping I'd like to disable the small UPS to pave towards deletion. Is there a way to temporarily disable a single UPS in a way that could be quickly re-enabled if problems arise?
