Problems with UPA - Want to delete and recreate the Service Application - Any major concerns?

Hi,

in our implementation of SP 2010 we have issues with the AD user sync. It does not work for ages :(

We would like to delete the current service application and create a new User Profile Service Application.

Does this have any consequences for the existing environment (content web apps?).
