Exclude Business Data Connectivity Service from Backups?

We are running SharePoint Foundation 2010 as part of our CRM solution. I've been troubleshooting an ongoing backup error related to the Business Data Connectivity Service. The error I'm getting is:

The rest of the backup succeeds without error.  I can't find anything related to this particular error outside of potential directory security issues, which I have reviewed and resolved.  I'm wondering if this error is due to the fact that we don't currently have any external database connections.  Could this be causing the error?  If so, can I exclude this service from the nightly backups?
