Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: 1387

i am trying to add a new front end sharepoint server to an existing content db.

i am runing the config wizard and sucessfully bringing up the server and database.

when the wizard attempts to complete if fails on this error:

Task configdb has failed with an unknown exception

Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: 1387
