The most effective way to create sharepoint page for the depeartment getting out of "folder" structure

I would like to know what's the best way to create the page for my department which will be actively used by about 10 members listing their projects etc. 

I would like to get away from folder structure and would like to hear a better alternative.  The purpose of this would be to improve search, collaboration etc.

I am using SharePoint 2010
