New web appliaction and top level site, web part error and no files in the inetpub folder

We have a two year old SharePoint 2010 with lots of web applications. Yesterday I did create a new web application with a top level team site. The process took a little more time than usual, men ended with a "Top-Level Site Successfully Created". So far so good...

Got in to the new site, and noticed there where something wrong. It was no web parts, and clicking the documents library it says: "Web Part Error: This page has encountered a critical error. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists"

Since I am the system administrator I started searching this problem online and found lots of similar problems, like http://www.cleverworkarounds.com/2010/08/17/why-me-web-part-errors-on-new-web-applications/.

Also checked the logs and the message says:

6610 Critical Safe mode did not start successfully. This page has encountered a critical error. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.

I went in to the inetpub folder to check the web.config and the Safe mode, but there is no files in the folder C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\XXXX , not after a iisreset either.

I hope some of you can point me to the right direction on this one
