Sharepoint 2013 installed, but the FIM 2010R2 installation says it's not

I've been installing Sharepoint 2013 according to these 2 articles:

http://www.fimspecialist.com/fim-portal/installing-fim-2010-r2-sp1-portal-on-sharepoint-foundation-2013/

http://www.harbar.net/articles/fimportal.aspx

and after installing SharePoint 2013 successfully with those steps I thought I was ready to install the FIM Service and Portal. When I run the installation I get the following error:

and that's all I get. I can browse to my site collection both via site name and http://localhost. I've gone back and verified permissions, I've verified the commands ( compatability level is 14, my spwebApplication shows as entered in the commands, double checked the SPNS, allowselfserviceupgrade is false). I really don't know where else to look. I tried logging the MSI install with verbose logging but didn't find anything useful(admittedly I was just browsing for anything that looked like an error). And my event log tells me:

Log Name:      Application

Source:        MsiInstaller

Event ID:      1033
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Forefront Identity Manager Service and Portal. Product Version: 4.1.2273.0. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1602.

Anybody have any other ideas before I start the uninstall and attempt to go start over?

New update. I just noticed my AppFabric Caching Service isn't running.... I'll start looking into that, but still looking for advice.
