How to configure user profile syncronization service with my membership data (SQL Server)

Hi

We have a product developed in moss. we stores employee data from external linked server to our custom membership data. We defined custom profile import job which creates/updates sharepoint user profile (UserProfileManager.createProfile...)

Now we are in Sharepoint 2010 and migrated custom profile import job. we created User profile service application. The issue is my migrated profile import job creates/updates sharepoint user profile. But when I in Central admin > user profile service application. there are less count in No of user profile. that reads from profile DB(created by service application). so even though my timer job has created around 62,000 user profile, the profile db just shows 39,000 users. I don't undestand why it's showing less profile?

Both forefront identity service and manager serives are required to start for only user profile service application or those services are related to Profile syncronization service only
