Greetings,
After a migration from SharePoint 2007 to 2010, few office documents will no longer open. I haven't figured out a pattern to these documents yet.
When I try to open a document I get two errors.
- Could not open http://....xls (or xlsx or doc or docx)'
- Microsoft Excel (or Word) cannot access the file http://....xls (or xlsx or doc or docx)'. There are several possible reasons:
- The file name or path does not exist.
- The file is being used by another program.
- The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
I can save a document on my local machine and then open it without any problems.
I did come across some TechNet discussions and did try the below which didn't help me.
- Click on Trust Center Settings in the right pane.
- Select Protected View in the left pane of “Trust Center” dialog.
- Disable any of all of the protected view options as below by unticking the check boxes:
- Enable Protected View for files that fail validation
- Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet
- Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe locations
- Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments"
We have a three tier environment with SharePoint, IIS and SQL on separate VM machines.
Are there any fixes available for this?
