Content Database grows to disk capacity in an hour

Just about once a month the content database used by our Sharepoint 2010 server spontaneously grows until it fills up the disk. It just creates empty space and I shrink the database back down each time but I would like to find out what is causing it. The database is 180GB and the disk size is 210GB if it matters.
