Permissions - Creating User Profile Service Application

Hi,

I am following this article (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rcormier/archive/2012/05/10/how-to-create-a-sharepoint-user-profile-service-application-with-powershell.aspx) to create a User Profile Service application using PowerShell. The first thing I need is a User profile Synchronization account. 

This article (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh296982(v=office.14).aspx) describes the permissions this account requires on the AD. 

My question is - does the user Profile Synchronization account (the account which needs permissions on the AD side) have to be the Farm Account?
