User Profile Service Application SyncDB size issue

I have been seeing the issue of the User Profile Sync database growing out of control. To this end, I applied the Feb 2012 CU a few days ago understanding that this would include some 'housekeeping' jobs to truncate various tables and bring the sync db size under control.

So far, I have seen no reduction in size at all.

My question is, is there something else I need to do further to applying the CU to bring the database size down?

Secondly (this might sound gormless or might be the very thing) I have noticed that the SQL Server Agent is stopped in SSMS with the status, 'Agent XPs Disabled'. Is this preventing the necessary jobs running? Are the procedures that clean up the sync db SQL Server Agent jobs?
