Webpart Connections to Multiple Value Columns

I've seen numerous questions reference wanting to use multiple values in a single filter.  My question is a bit of the opposite.  I have a main/parent webpart and multiple detail/child webparts.  I want the detail/child webparts to filter their data based on a single column value in the main/parent webpart.  Where I run into a problem is the detail/child webpart column has multiple values.  When I set up the connection Getting Filter Data From main/parent webpart it returns no data even though one of the values within the detail/child column does equal the main/parent column.  If the connection options allowed for "contains" I believe there would be no issue.

Hopefully my issue is clear enough.

Any suggestions on where my thinking is going wrong?????
