User Changed Last name Account field shows old username

So a SP user had a last name change. In SharePoint all the information in the profile updated except the account name which shows the users old username. Is this expected behavior? I think this is causing an issue with some infopath forms we have that are trying to populate fields based on the current user logged into SharePoint at the time.
