Unable to select a shared data source for a Report Definition in a Business Intelligence Center in IE after SharePoint SP2 Upgrade

Our company had deployed SP2 upgrade to SharePoint 2010 last month.  Ever since then someone that was had a report definition on a Business Integence Center site on the SharePoint farm could no longer use Internet Explorer to select a shared data source.  However, they can go to the same location in Chrome and the select works.  On IE9 when we go to the site, the Document Mode settings is set for IE 8 due to the v4.Master Master Page being used..  When clicking on the ... button to select a shared datasource, the window lets me go up and down into folders fine in IE but it won't let me select a data source, I get the following error message:

SCRIPT5007: Unable to get value of the property 'parentNode': object is null or undefined
RSItemPicker.aspx?Fallback=http%3a%2f%2fwebappsqa.ingramcontent.com%2fsites%2freports%2fAR%2fReport+Definitions%2fAR_Aging%2fDaily+EAN+Change+Report.rdl&SelectableType=Model&SelectableType=DataSource&UseRelativePaths=False&Item=http%3A%2F%2Fwebappsqa.ingramcontent.com%2Fsites%2Freports%2FAR%2FData Sources%2FBIAcctReceivableTestCL.rsds, line 145 character 6

In IE, if I manually change the document mode to IE 9 or IE 7 from IE 8, then the window lets me select a data source.  So I created a new master page which was a duplicate of v4.master except it had variations of a line in the <HEAD> section:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8"/>  , where I would take the content= part out completely or replace IE=8 with IE=9 or IE=7 or IE=edge.  No matter how I changed it, the document mode for the page would show I was in a different mode other than IE8 however, the selection of a data source still failed unless I changed the document mode manually to Quirk mode and then to IE 7 or IE 9 and then it would work.   I couldn't find from searching anybody else having this issue but was wondering if there is a good fix for this in IE.

Thanks.
