I have a Portal Site I created, in my old farm, and I was using Audience Targeting on the navigation, so links and headings I create will only be seen by the users that have access to those links. I used AD groups for this and never had a problem. I never configured anything on my end other then creating a portal site.
I moved this site into a new farm in a different domain. Now when I try to do the same thing, and try adding the AD group to the audience of the link it tells me "No exact match was found. Click the item(s) that did not resolve for more options." I even tried clicking the little address book, and add it that way and still the same issue.
If I try to add that AD group, to a sharepoint group, it is found without any problems. Like I said I never configured anything on the old farm to do this, so any ideas on what is going on? I do not want to create audiences and use them for this purpose, as it will be a lot of work. I have a ton of headings that need to be shown only to specific users, and links under those headings that should be displayed to only certain users. Why can't I just use a normal AD group for this purpose like I did before?
