User profile synchronization Service stopped after Installing SharePoint 2010 SP2

Hi,

I have installed SharePoint 2010 SP2 (KB921193) on our dev farm and all went well during the install process. Here is the process followed:

Install SP2 on all SP servers

  • Run PSCONFIG on CA server first, then on the remaining server
  • Then PSCONGIG -cmd upgrade in console on all SP servers

...excited as all went well, with no errors.

Then started performing the routine checks and here are the issues I found so far:

In Central Admin:

  • The UPS service had stopped
  • The Profile Synchronization Connection disappeared

In the Services snap-in:

  • FIM Sync Service is disabled. - even I manual enable it and start it, it gets disabled after a server restart or attempted sync run.

What I tried already.

Observations: If I manually start the Sync Service and open the FIM console and manually run the MOSS-(guid) FULL_IMPORT agent i get the an error in event viewer:

"System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException: No User Profile Application available to service the request. Contact your farm administrator.

Any recommendations?
