I have a little confusion regarding sharepoint service applications so I thought I should ask the pros at this forum to get the proper understanding .
Lets suppose I have a sharepoint farm (1 web , 1 app , 1 db) topology . Central admin is on the app server and I have disabled "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application " on the application server . now If i create ,lets suppose an excel service .its iis application pool will it be created on the app server or the wfe server ?. Furthermore according to my understanding these service application should reside on the application server and use the application server's resources so that the wfe could only be used for http requests only . How can I make sure that all my service applications are hosted only on my app server .
I would be grateful if you guys could refer me to some relevant resource where I could get an in depth conceptual understanding and clear out my confusions.
