Restore SP 2010 Object Business Data Connectivity Service failed Error

We have 2 Virtual Sharepoint  Server 2010 machines, each are “stand-alone”, both running on Server 2008 R2; one is live and the other is a copy of the live for testing. They do reside on separate hosts. The intent is to use the test machine as a “Sandbox” and also to have it available (from the restore) in case it is needed for Disaster Recovery purposes.  I am trying to use Powershell to backup the live SP and then restore it to the backup.

The backup command I am using is:

Backup-SPFarm -Directory E:\backups -BackupMethod Full

The restore command is:

Restore-SPFarm  -Directory  <BackupFolder> -RestoreMethod Overwrite

Initially, the test machine was created as a duplicate of the live one and the only change made was to rename the machine and change its IP address. Additionally, it is only connected to the network when it is needed for testing , so as to save confusion, as users have been known to connect with that rather than the live as the url is the same for both.

I have been successful in backing up the live, however when restoring this backup to the test, whether I use Powershell or the Admin Console, I get the following message at the end of the Restore log:

  • Restore failed for Object Business Data Connectivity Service failed in event OnPostRestore. For more information, see the spbackup.log or sprestore.log file located in the backup directory.

I have tried this with the backup in a separate, networked drive and copied locally to the test VM. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
