Sharepoint: Site Action Button - No Site Settings, No Site Permission etc

Hi,

I am relatively new to SharePoint and I have been exploring the functionality of the tool and inspecifically subsites and permissions.

The problem I have is that I created a subsite and I have now lost the majority of options from the 'Site Action' button - the only option being available being "View all site content".  When I go back to the main site I still have all the options from the 'Site Action' button (eg, 'Site Permissions', 'Site Settings' etc.  I was looking at the Permissions to the subsite before they disappeared and obviously I can't look at those permissions in the subsite as that option isn't available from the 'Site Action' button menu.

Is there any way of getting this functionality back to the subsite?
