S2010 to SP2013 Migration, Claims conversion

Hello all,

I'm working on SP2010 to SP2013 migration and I'm little confuse about when/how to conver the SP2010 classic mode web application to SP2013 claims.

Currently we have SP2010 classic mode web application. I'm reading it on the internet that

  1. either I can convert existing SP2010 classic mode web application to claims in 2010 itself and then take that database and mount it to SP2013 default claims based web application.
  2. or I can take the SP2010 classic mode web application DB and attach it to SP2013 default claims based web application (Can I do this since I'm attaching classic mode DB to claims mode web application) and then you "Convert-SPWebApplication" command to convert the DBs to Claims.

Questions are,

  1. Is it my correct understanding?
  2. Which is Microsoft recommended approach?
  3. Let's assume that If i go with the second no approach mention above, Do I have to create the classic mode web application in SP2013 using PowerShell and then attach that SP2010 classic mode DB and then convert it to claims using powershe command "Convert-SPWebApplication"?

Please help.....

Thank you very much!!!!
