Workflows - Making repeatable workflows work and the system account problem

Hey There

Ok so first I have seen similar questions asked about workflows and automatic start, but there doesn't seem to have been a definitive answer.

After searching for the last 2 days and trying out various procedures and tips, I am still at a loss to making workflows automiatically start, when an item has been modified. Form my research it seem like if the workflow is run from the system account user, then it's built in to stop.

In my scenairo I just want a very simple workflow to be initialised, when an item has been created and then modified. (I created the following in SPD2010)

The workflow starts when the item is modified and then waits for 2 hours.  After this it then updates a date field with the value of Today().
Because the item has been modified, the workflow fires again and the as you would guess waits for 2 hours and then update sthe date field again.
In this manner the workflow should just infinately loop, updating the item created every 2 hours.

Now before you say, there probably is a much easier way of doing this with code, but i'm not expert with that and this seemed fitted our needs very well with our 2007 system.

What I currently get is that after the item is created, the workflow initialises, waits for 2 hours updates the date field and then completes.  The problem is of course it doesn't run again, even though the file has been updated/modified, which has been set in the initialization settings.

From my research, I have found that if the workflow runs from a system account, then it is designed to not automatically run. Which could confirm my problem. The trouble is I don;t know whether my account is setup as a System Account and where I can find out and remove. When I click on the running workflow, it doesn indeed display System Accountas the one who modified it, so I am guessing I am.

We had a third party company setup of 2010 deployment, so can you tell me where i should be able to find this information of system accounts and how I can remove myself from it.  Of that is not the correct procedure, can you explain to me the correct way of creating a workflow such as this and deploying it correctly so it will run automatically.

I have tried this with a new account which I made in AD and imported and run into the same problems.

Many thanks
RDH
