SharePoint 2010 Patching

Hi All,

Can anyone explain in detail about SharePoint patching? Our farm has SharePoint 2010 with SP2 (Build version: 14.0.7015.1000). Now we have installed september 2016 CU and while running the configuration wizard it is getting failed. Event id is 100 & 104.How to troubleshoot this issue and We want to know after the patching the build version will change to 14.0.7173.5000 (Sep 2016 CU) ? Pls guide
