Modifying page dimensions in confilct with corev4.css

Hello!

I'm working on a remote SP2010, and the only access I have is through SharePoint Designer (I'm not able to remote in to this specific server).

I'd like to take the V4 Master and alter the dimensions of the page. I'd like to make the content container more narrow with background margins on either side (similar to the old Blue Vertical Master). I'm aware of the method I'll use to add additional styles on top of the corev4.css stylesheet to alter the corev4.css.

However, I noticed that many of the sections of the corev4.css that I plan to alter have !important; after them.

My question is: Is there a recommended method of dealing with these !important; css styles in corev4.css?

Thanks!

T
