Error while configuring Managed Metadata Connection

I have a SharePoint 2010 Managed metadata service application hosted in a Server Farm hosted on Windows Server 2012.

I am trying to create Managed Metadata Service connection from SharePoint 2010 hosted on Windows Server 2008 R2. 

I followed the steps detailed below:

1) Exchanged Certificates between the farm

2) On the publishing farm, publish the service application

3) On the publishing farm, set the permission to Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application

4)On the consuming farm, connect to the remote service application.

I am getting the following error while connecting to the topology service both via  Central Admin & Powershell.

"ID3242: The security token could not be authenticated or authorized."

Any help would be highly appreciated.
