RESTORE

Hi,

I did a "restore from a backup" on a web application from the backup of my already existing web application say- (ex http://abcd:xxx) with database (ex wss_abcd) . The web application that i restored to is (ex http://lmno:zzzz) with the newly created database (wss_lmno). But even after the restore when i access the site it says "Page cannot be displayed". What can be the possible reasons. The site that i restored to(http://lmno) was created before the restore and the database during the restore.

SharePoint 2010 Backup hangs

Dear SharePoint community!

For backing my SharePoint farm I have created two files:
File 1 content (Backup.bat):

C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\PowerShell.exe  " & 'D:\Backup\\NewbackupSPFarm.ps1'"

File 2 content (NewbackupSPFarm.ps1):

Add-PsSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell

Backup-SPFarm -Directory "\\192.168.1.8\SharePointBackup" -BackupMethod full -verbose

I have added "-verbose" parameter for better understanding of reasons why my backup procedure hangs.
But unfortunately I cannot see anything useful here.
After working for about 5-10 minutes the command creates reasonable big backup on my backup device, but the command hang in console. the latest stage is:

Verbose: [Search_Service_Application_DB_ae9ea070da9d4888944ceea39cd2258c] SQL command completed at:

The same time I cannot fire farm backup from SharePoint Central Administration site. The job does not start and create non output on backup device.

There is no pending backup jobs, timer service is running, I am running backup as Admin, UAC is on "never notify" state.

What can be a reason of non-response?

Thanks a lot in advance!

SharePoint Server 2010-Installation on Windows 8

Hi All,

I'm new to SharePoint. Can anyone provides the steps for installing Sharepoint Server 2010 on Windows 8.

Trying to find answers for the question "Why is this file type blocked from being uploaded into SharePoint"

$

At least once a month - sometimes much more frequently - I get calls from users asking why the file extension they "need" to upload to SharePoint is blocked.

Most recently, it was a Microsoft Access database that the user was attempting to upload to a document library. Before that, it was a shortcut link (*.url). And so on.

Is there a reference document which goes over the reasons why specific file types are blocked?

Thanks!

Random users receive an unexpected error when trying to access SharePoint 2010 farm.

Over the past few months we had occasions where established users trying to connect to my production SharePoint 2010 farm receive a correlation error page when trying to access the farm. I have two WFEs load balanced and the errors show up on either so it doesn't happen on just on or the other. Specifically today it was three users in one office  out of about 15 that were affected the rest were able to access the farm without any problems and there were no other reports from other offices. Each time the user can eventually get in without any outside intervention it just seems to fix itself after a few hours. Each time it happens I search the logs for the CorrelationID(s) and everytime I see the same set of errors in the ULS logs. I also go check the Windows Security logs to make sure they connected to the server okay. I've confirmed that the Web App's PortalSuperUserAccount and PortalSuperReaderAccount are both set correctly. Just looking to see if anyone has experienced this and figured what was happening and how to fix it.

These are the log entries:

Sharepoint 2010 Question

I was in a debate with a colleague about sharepoint restore. I understand that there are bunch of things that need to be backed up like GAC, hive, etc but we do not have complex apps. We are using sharepoint as internal portal and there are external facing sites which just disseminate information.

So the debate was if I backup the content DB of form A webapp  and create a new web app on Farm B and restore Farm A content DB on to Farm B content DB , will that work.

What is the importance of service application DB's. Is it ok if I just turn on service applications related to this webapp on Farm B or do I need to restore the DB's too.

I understand the search and managed metadata service DB's ,,,Can you please give me examples of other services for which DB needs to be backed and restored.

Workflow for usage of forms depending on value in a list

$

Hello everyone,

my situation is the following one:

I have a list of Consulting Requests. That list has a Status column. Here we have 5 different statuses. Depending on the status I want to have a different form displayed when the item is being edited.

I already created the corresponding forms in SharePoint Designer and was able to assign one form when a new item is created. A second form is also assigned that is displayed, when the item is edited (in general). But I need that form to be displayed according to the value of the Status column. Now I need three more forms:

- one that apppears when the item is edited and has the status 'In Review' (Status 4/5)

- one should be displayed when the item is being edited and has the status 'Complete'.

However I just want to know if there is the chance to implement a workflow that can link the usage of a certain list form to the value of a certain column.

Thank you in advance for your contributions!

Bug editing list Items using webpart connections ,group by and inline editing

Hi Everyone. I came across a bug using out of the box features.

Let me explain well the details to reproduce the error. I used :

*2 Lists :

-List one : the consumer list with two columns :

-Number column

-Choice column

-List two : The sender list with one column :

-Lookup column to gets the number column on the consumer list

*A webpart Page

*2 listviewwebparts in the webpart page

*Connect webparts to filter by the lookup column/number column

*Add inline editing in the consumer webpart

Till now everything works perfectly, inline editing works fine. Let's add some more view details :

*Add a group by in the view of the consumer webpart (group by the choice column)

=> Try to edit list items, you will notice that inside a group, inline editing is OK and inside another group it doesnt work!

If you get the same error, that would be nice to find where is the problem (I already found a similar bug and the problem was the sorting that needs to be in the same way for both connected webparts , ASC or DESC). But this one... ???

how to force a sharepoint 2010 site to use 2007 UI

We have sites that were created in Sharepoint 2007 and when we upgraded to Sharepoint 2010 our users wanted to keep the 2007 UI look and feel.  So these sites still look like they did in 2007.  Now we need to create a new site for this customer and they want this site to also look like the 2007 UI.  So my question is: is it possible to create a new site in Sharepoint 2010 but somehow force it to have the 2007 UI?

thanks

Questiong about Aliases and cliconfig

Happy holidays! Quick question, we currently use an alias through cliconfg sharepoint_db on all of our front end servers. We have been making an effort to use aliases on the dns server for all of our database servers. I am thinking I can just create the alias on dns and point it to the same database server as in cliconfg, remove the entry from cliconfg and reboot the servers.  I don't think there are any other steps I should take to do this but dropping a line here just in case as you guys are always helpful :)

Thanks!

How to remove New and Upload menus

$

On our custom site in Sharepoint 2010 we have a custom menu under Actions in a document library that we want our users to use to upload new documents to a document library.  When they do it via this custom menu item, then our custom code executes and takes them through some extra steps.  This means, that we do not want them to use the built-in New or Upload buttons.  Is there any way to remove these menus (New and Upload), disable them or make them not visible?  I've found some examples of doing it with stylesheets (to make them not visible) but doesn't that apply to existing document libraries?  If I create a new one, will I also have to go and modify the stylesheet?

thanks,

Hi,

How can I enable it?

Access Denied after Classic to Claims migration

$

I just completed migrating a SharePoint 2010 web app from classic to claims and now only the portal super user account (present in the user policy) can log in. Site collection admins of the web app cannot log in as well.
Normally I have a series of fixes which help me resolve this issue but this time neither of them have worked.
Heres the architecture design of our farm. All servers are running on Windows 2008 R2
2 x web front end (WFE) servers. (Load balancing and using a viritual IP address assigned to a different URL using Alternal Access Mapping (AAM))
2 x application servers.
1 SQL 2008 R2 server.
Our farm is patched to September 2014 CU level.

Initially I follow the steps provided in this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg251984(v=office.14).aspx.
If that doesn't work then I rebuild the web app from a fresh copy of the content database that I had backedup previously and then I follow the steps provided in this article
http://blog.henryong.com/2011/08/18/sharepoint-2010-converting-from-classic-to-claims-authentication-lessons-learned/

As always I do an IIS reset on both the WFE amd application servers and make sure that the timer service has run on all four servers.

Now when I go into the web app and see the Authentication Providers I see the default is set to ' Claims Based Authentication' Also when I go into the User Policy I see the below

Also, when I run the Get-SPUser -Web "http://sharepoint.contoso.com" -Group "Viewers", I do get a list of of users which have the i:0#.w before each name.

I've run out of ideas and hence am seeking advice.
Thanks in advance.
