Have DNS name redirect to port8080 site, plus AAM

I've got a new site on :8080. We'll call it http://newsite.domain.local:8080

I want to set it up so that when users to to http://newsite.domain.local, they're automatically redirected to :8080. I'm thinking I'll do this with an IIS redirect. (Before anyone asks, normally I'd ask for a new IP, for whatever reason it has been slow in coming.)

I'm wondering, though, if this will have any affect on AAM.

Any more-Sharepoint friendly ways of going about this to recommend?
